The candidate must be assessed on their ability to integrate and apply the performance requirements of this unit in a workplace setting. Performance must be demonstrated consistently over time and in a suitable range of contexts.
The candidate must provide evidence that they can:
investigate the circumstances and logistics for the emergency
carry out preparation and move to the rescue site
assess the situation and establish communication with additional or specialist help
carry out the required rescue or response to emergency
implement post incident responses
use industry standard terminology
apply workplace health and safety in the context of own work.
The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of:
local environmental conditions
search and rescue methods
operation and characteristics of rescue equipment, tools and vehicles
environmental, public health and safety issues
types of hazards and how they should be handled
enterprise procedures, legislative and work health and safety requirements
first aid, life preservation.
Assessors must satisfy current standards for RTOs.
