A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy the requirements of the elements, performance criteria, foundation skills and range of conditions of this unit.
The person must also store waste in a storage facility for two different tasks.
While storing waste, the person must:
identify an appropriate waste storage facility based on an assessment of:
the amount and volume of waste
the types of waste to be stored
waste compatibilities
follow organisational procedures to work safely and comply with regulatory and legal requirements
select, obtain and operate equipment required to facilitate waste storage
identify waste types and waste characteristics
place correct identification signage on the waste storage facility
check the integrity of stored waste and identify, manage or report non-conformances, as specified in the range of conditions
contain, secure and cover stored waste
document the details of stored waste using organisational proformas.
A person demonstrating competency in this unit must demonstrate knowledge of:
classifications of waste
compatibilities of waste types
key features of the waste management hierarchy
hazards and risks associated with stored waste including hazardous substances and dangerous goods
industry-accepted signalling techniques
organisational policies and procedures and regulatory and legal requirements relating to storing waste
procedures for containing segregated waste types
types, streams and characteristics of waste
waste non-conformances and contaminants
waste sorting techniques.

Assessor requirements
As a minimum, assessors must satisfy the assessor requirements in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) current at the time of assessment.
