Elements and Performance Criteria
- Prepare site for excavation
- Identify work health and safety hazards, assess risks and report to the supervisor
- Select and use personal protective clothing (PPE) and equipment
- Select, prepare and use tools, equipment and machinery
- Inspect surrounding monuments, masonry or headstones that threaten the stability of the new gravesite and remove if necessary, after consultation with supervisor
- Use sludge pump to remove excess water if required
- Mark gravesite out to suit coffin dimensions
- Assist with the excavation
- Assist with excavation of grave
- Shore sides of grave where depth of grave exceeds 1.5 metres or as instructed
- Cover surface area for 400 mm from the edge of the excavation with an approved material to ensure the integrity and stability of the soil
- Secure gravesite with protective restraints to limit access to the site while being established and when left unattended
- Backfill and enhance the gravesite following burial
- Back-fill grave with soil free from large lumps, plant debris or waste material
- Use backfilling techniques to consolidate the soil, to minimise cavities and to restore the ground to its original level
- Replace surrounding monuments, masonry or headstones as necessary
- Dispose of waste material and plant debris removed from the gravesite in an environmentally ssafe manner
- Enhance gravesite as instructed
