- Consolidate understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures
- Research historical and contemporary events and issues and their impacts on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
- Investigate the personal, family and/or community obligations that impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander visual artists
- Relate research findings to professional practice issues
- Investigate the cultures of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander visual artists relevant to own work
- Evaluate ideas and theory about the impact of culture on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander visual artists
- Use a range of sources of information to research the visual arts practices of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander visual artists, including relevance to culture
- Extend knowledge of cultural protocols relevant to own work
- Analyse and record information gathered
- Apply research findings to professional practice
- Access and reference information in a culturally appropriate way, including correct recording of provenance and authenticity of artwork
- Review work practices to ensure they recognise the role of the artist as a family and community member as well as a professional artist, to identify areas for improvement
- Integrate new knowledge into professional practice to support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander visual artists
