Elements and Performance Criteria
- Plan coupe harvesting
- Access and interpret harvesting plan and check where required with appropriate personnel.
- Calculate size of coupe and available timber.
- Estimate equipment, human and other resource requirements.
- Draw up personnel plans and schedules and notify coupe harvesting date and location to employees.
- Organise availability of appropriate equipment and ensure operational effectiveness.
- Apply for planning permits.
- Implement harvesting plans
- Analyse and record forest type, topography and available species in line with harvesting plan.
- Calculate gross area of coupe and determine nett area to be harvested.
- Calculate and record volume estimates.
- Implement and monitor operational activities including access, site preparation and environmental and workplace health and safety protection measures.
- Contract cartage operators via tender and set cartage routes.
- Produce, check and communicate schedule for harvesting.
- Review harvesting work plan
- Identify and evaluate problems encountered during harvesting and use information to enhance future planning.
- Review and evaluate personnel and equipment efficiencies and use information to enhance future planning.
- Identify and document environmental issues encountered during harvesting and feed into future planning processes.
- Record harvesting plan implementation issues and report to appropriate personnel
