- Read work sheets to determine medical gas handling requirements
- Select equipment required for medical gas handling appropriate for the size of cylinder and work tasks
- Organise and set up work areas to ensure safe, effective and efficient handling of medical gas equipment
- Inspect medical gas equipment to ensure cleanliness of all components, including yoke, manifold or regulator
- Identify potential medical gas hazards to work and manage associated risks according to job requirements
- Report and document identified hazards and risks
- Select emergency and personal protective equipment and fit in accordance with manufacturer specifications
- Fit and test bottles and regulators
- Follow workplace procedures and legislative requirements to handle medical gas equipment
- Use personal protective equipment and recommended precautions when handling medical gas equipment
- Confirm only trained and authorised personnel are involved in handling medical gas equipment
- Handle medical gas cylinders and related equipment with care and position according to manufacturer recommendations
- Select appropriate trolley size and type for the movement of cylinders
- Restrain cylinders for transport
- Select appropriate regulators for use with cylinder
- Close valves prior to transport
- Close cylinder valves and release regulator pressure after use
- Monitor gas pipeline and manifold systems
- Replace empty bottles and banks as soon as exhausted
- Open cylinder valves on manifold banks in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and organisation requirements and whether they are manual or automatic
- Follow workplace procedures and legislative requirements for storing medical gas cylinders and equipment
- Store all cylinders and equipment in appropriate storage locations in accordance with manufacturer recommendations
- Store cylinders away from combustible material
- Use cylinder stock on a rotational system and keep full and empty cylinders separate
- Protect cylinders from cold and heat
- Close and secure storage area
- Display clearly visible signage outside medical gas storage area
