Range Statement
The Range Statement relates to the unit of competency as a whole. It allows for different work environments and situations that may affect performance. Add any essential operating conditions that may be present with training and assessment depending on the work situation, needs of the candidate, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts.Where reference is made to industry codes of practice, and/or Australian/international standards, the latest version must be used.ContextThis competency applies to on-site work environments and sectors typically within manufacturing or heavy industries. It covers, but may not be limited to, the preparation for on-site work. ProceduresAll operations are performed in accordance with procedures.Procedures include all relevant workplace procedures, manufacturer specifications and procedures, work instructions, temporary instructions and relevant industry and government codes and standards. On-site workOn-site work covered by this competency may include (but may not be limited to):conveyor belt splicing and repairsrubber lagging of conveyor drumsrubber lining of tankspolymer piping systems installation or repairspolymer constructions (eg fume cupboards or signs)refractory liningconcrete castingother work to be done on-site, and not in a factory or workshop.Work requirementsWork requirements may be determined from:work orders specifications job descriptions designs other documents.IsolationsIsolations include:power supply tag locations process materialsenergy sources and equipment isolation system.Safe work areaSafe work area includes area(s) for:scaffolding lifting gear lay down areawork areaother equipment in appropriate locations.Tools and equipmentThis competency includes planning and set-up of equipment and tools such as:manual handling aids hand winchesportable power generators and vulcanising equipment knives and other cutting instrumentsportable hoists/lifting equipment not requiring any special permits or licencesspanners, wrenches, hammers etcpower operated hand tools such as drills, cutting disks, sanders specialised tools for the jobrelevant personal protective equipment.HazardsTypical hazards include:manual handling hazardsworking at heightsdust, process liquids, process materialshand tools and hand held power tools (eg knife, cutting and grinding disk hazards).ProblemsAnticipate and solve problems means resolve a wide range of routine and non-routine problems, using product and process knowledge to develop solutions to problems which do not have a known solution/a solution recorded in the procedures.Typical process and product problems may include:lack of accessibility equipment isolationslogistics of materials ad equipment to work sitevariations in materials and/or contamination of materials.VariablesKey variables to be monitored include:environmental conditionslock-out/isolation of equipment worksite location, remoteness, accessibilityjob variations, changes.
