Performance Evidence
A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, and must be able to provide evidence that they can:
prepare and start up waste paper operations, at least twice in line with required enterprise intervals, in a pulp or paper manufacturing facility by:identifying and actioning problems within level of responsibilityundertaking pre startup checks and confirming that services, raw material, equipment and personnel are available and faults are identifiedidentifying and monitoring process control pointsplanning and organising startupsmonitoring and adjusting systems, through inspections and tests, and rectifying variations from specificationsusing and interpreting electronic control systems, including Digital Control System (DCS), touch screens or robotics to control equipment and processes during operationsreporting on sampling, tests and operational datacommunicating effectively, through written and verbal means, and working safely with others, in the work area when undertaking waste paper operations.
Knowledge Evidence
A person competent in this unit must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:
documentation and procedures relevant to waste paper operations in the pulp and paper industry and including:work health and safety (WHS) including high risk load shifting licensing requirements, plant clearance, job safety analysis, permit systems, product specifications and schedules, emergency procedures and responsesstandard operating procedures (SOP) and housekeepingproductivity requirements and quality proceduresenvironmental sustainability requirements and practicesmachinery and plant manufacturing operating manualsenterprise policies and proceduresSafety Data Sheets (SDS)oil or chemical spills and disposal guidelinesplant isolation documentation and process and instrument diagramsfurnish sheets and tally sheetsmaintenance logs, job sheetssite agreementshazards and risks including steam and/or gas leaks, fires, chemicals, fumes, confined spaces and dust, and how to address themkey features of waste paper operations including pulping, screening, dewatering and reject systemsappropriate materials and their uses in waste paper operations including waste paper, air, water, chemicals, broke, steam and electricity waste paper plant, processes, layout and associated services sufficient to carry out startup responsibilityelectronic and other control systems, to make appropriate adjustments that control the waste paper operations.
