Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Proceed to fire
  2. Combat fires
  3. Appropriate personal protective clothing and equipment is donned, in accordance with organisational procedures
  4. Most effective route to the fire is identified
  5. Prepare extinguishing media and/or equipment for use
  6. Equipment to access and supply water to firefighting operations is identified and assembled, in accordance with organisational procedures
  7. Nominated extinguishing media and/or equipment is identified, obtained and or accessed
  8. Hazards are identified and reported to supervisors, in accordance with organisational procedures
  9. Firefighting strategies are implemented through the chain of command, in accordance with organisational procedures
  10. Safe escape routes are identified confirmed and maintained in accordance with organisational procedures
  11. Access to location of fire is gained and protecting life and minimising damage to the environment and property is undertaken, in accordance with organisational procedures
  12. Extinguishing media and equipment are used, in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications and organisational procedures
  13. Communication with team members and supervisor is maintained throughout the incident, in accordance with organisational procedures
  14. Observe and report changes in conditions at the fire
  15. Firefighting tactics are adapted to meet changing conditions and fire behaviour
  16. Participate in ancillary operations
  17. Assistance is given, if required, to complete and record incident information
  18. Conclude firefighting operations
  19. Incident scene is made safe for the public
  20. Defective or missing equipment is identified and reported, in accordance with organisational procedures
  21. Participate in debriefing sessions
