Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare to operate from an elevated work platform underground
   • Access, interpret and apply documentation and procedures for operating from an elevated work platform underground and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Receive, interpret and clarify shift changeover details
   • Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
   • Inspect and assess site conditions to determine if scaling is required and take action
   • Select appropriate equipment for job type and specifications
   • Carry out equipment pre-start checks
   • Identify, address and report potential risks and hazards
   • Carry out start-up procedures
   • Communicate with other equipment operators and personnel using approved communication methods
   • Identify, address and report environmental issues
   • Adhere to emergency procedures
   • Ensure area is well ventilated before entry into worksite
   • Use approved dust suppression and extraction methods
2. Position and set up platform
   • Position equipment to ensure safety of other equipment and personnel
   • Stabilise work platform to suit ground conditions
   • Select and fit attachments
3. Conduct work activities from elevated platform
   • Use approved safety devices and ensure safety of personnel and surrounding site
   • Monitor and manage equipment performance using appropriate indicators
   • Operate equipment safely within work environment, road conditions and limitations
   • Complete all required documentation clearly, concisely and on time
   • Pass on end of shift information verbally or in writing to oncoming shift
4. Carry out operator maintenance
   • Carry out shutdown procedures
   • Carry out operator maintenance, service and make minor adjustments to equipment
5. Conduct housekeeping activities
   • Clean and maintain equipment, and ensure safe and efficient for operations
   • Clean and store auxiliary service equipment

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of operating from elevated work platforms underground including:

selecting and operating appropriate equipment

inspecting and assessing site conditions

carrying out pre-start checks, start-up and shutdown procedures

identifying, addressing and reporting risks and hazards and environmental issues

demonstrates completion of operating from elevated work platforms underground that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

identifying and using approved dust suppression and extraction methods

position, setup up and stabilise elevated work platform

conducting work activities from an elevated work platform

identifying and using approved safety devices

maintaining, cleaning and storing equipment
