- Equipment, machinery and personnel are organised to facilitate the safe and efficient loading and unloading of the ship
- Liaison is maintained with supervisors to ensure availability of adequate resources
- Manage potential risks
- Potential hazards are identified, risks are assessed and appropriate controls are implemented in accordance with workplace procedures
- Potential risks to safe and efficient operations are removed from work area and/or other arrangements are made to ensure conditions for safe work
- Supervisors are advised of potential risks and liaison is maintained until risks have been removed
- Monitor work performance and progress
- Work performance and progress are monitored to ensure work is performed in accordance with established guidelines and procedures, and that safe work practices are maintained
- Work methods and procedures are monitored and refined in consultation with supervisors and operational personnel
- Work performance rates are monitored and delays are minimised to ensure work program objectives are met
- Work practices are monitored to ensure compliance with national standards and safety codes
- Environmental conditions are monitored to ensure safe working conditions are maintained
- Monitor status of pending work
- Pending work needs of the ship and the terminal or wharf are identified
