Elements and Performance Criteria
- Plan work for current working conditions
- Job hazards are identified and required action is taken to minimise, control or eliminate identified hazards
- Traffic flow and work area conditions are constantly assessed and anticipated to ensure no injury to people, or damage to equipment, loads or facilities
- Load characteristics are taken into account to ensure appropriate attachments are used to transport load as required
- Safe working load (SWL) or working load limit (WLL) is calculated
- Occurrences in work area that affect safety and efficiency of operations are reported to appropriate personnel
- Use controls and equipment operating systems to manage moving unit and accessory operations
- Equipment is prepared and appropriate attachment is fitted
- Gear and operational levers are checked to ensure they are in neutral position prior to inserting ignition key and starting engine
- Engine is started in accordance with manufacturer guidelines to bring engine up to speed
- Instruments and gauges are monitored during start up and operations to ensure operation is within manufacturer specifications and workplace procedures
- Engine power is managed to ensure efficiency of equipment movement and economy of equipment operations
- Equipment operations are conducted in accordance with manufacturer specified torque range
- Faults or damage to equipment are immediately reported to appropriate personnel in accordance with workplace procedures
- Locate load and identify load characteristics
- Load is located and identified in accordance with workplace procedures
- Loading and unloading plans are followed to ensure efficiency and safety of operations
- Load characteristics are taken into account to ensure appropriate loading and unloading workplace procedures are followed
- Hazardous goods are identified and relevant procedures are taken into account when planning and conducting work
- Load weight and dimensions are established within equipment capacity
- Move materials and loads
- Monitor and operate controls
- Equipment controls are monitored and operated in accordance with manufacturer operating instructions
- Control systems are interpreted and acted on in accordance with statutory authority regulations, manufacturer guidelines and site workplace procedures
- Control faults are identified and reported in accordance with manufacturer instructions and workplace guidelines
- Stop, park and secure equipment
- Equipment is brought to a controlled halt in accordance with manufacturer guidelines
- Equipment is parked without injury to personnel or damage to equipment, loads or facilities in accordance with company procedures
- Equipment is secured on a flat, even surface, clear of doorways, aisles, access ways or blind corners in accordance with securing procedures for appropriate equipment
- Problems, faults or malfunctions are reported and/or rectified in accordance with regulatory requirements and workplace procedures
