Of the three elective units, one may come from any endorsed Training Package at the Certificate II/III level.

The total package of units must meet the requirements of the Australian Qualifications Framework Descriptor for a Certificate II. In all cases selection of electives must be guided by the job outcome sought, local industry requirements and the level of the qualification.

Notes on Certificate II

This qualification is designed to develop the ability to cut and polish opals at a basic skill level. The qualification is aimed at a young person entering the industry sector, the miner or serious hobbyist wanting hands-on skills in opal cutting and polishing. The qualification provides a pathway which can subsequently be built on to achieve a range of high level outcomes in the industry.

The Certificate II is a flexible qualification and choice of elective units can provide for a range of outcomes. Examples of appropriate units for particular jobs at this level are as follows.
