Certificate IV in Aromatherapy

This qualification covers the skills needed to be a basic level aromatherapist. It provides basic skills in aromatherapy health assessment and treatment and may be used by those working in:

a clinic, aged care facility, a health service or a spa facility giving basic aromatherapy treatment

manufacturing of aromatherapy products

retail of aromatherapy products.

At this level an aromatherapist can only formulate applications within a relaxation framework. A person at this level is expected to have a basic knowledge of a limited range (minimum of 20) of oils. A person with this qualification may or may not use massage as a method of application.

This qualification assumes employment either by another practitioner or within a larger health service e.g. aged care service or hospital. It does not offer the level of skill required for independent practice. The qualification is suited to Australian Apprenticeships pathways.

The importance of culturally aware and respectful practice

All workers undertaking work in health need foundation knowledge to inform their work with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients and co-workers and with clients and co-workers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. This foundation must be provided and assessed as part of a holistic approach to delivery and assessment of this qualification. Specific guidelines for assessment of this aspect of competency are provided in the Assessment Guidelines for the Health Training Package.

AROMATHERAPY SKILL SET

Due to the employment profile of the Health industry there are some areas where offering a full qualification would not match industry requirements. The Aromatherapy skill set is recommended for individuals wishing to gain a set of aromatherapy skills to complement another health qualification.
