Learning Outcomes and Application | This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to move waste using loadshifting equipment and attachments. The unit covers preparing for work tasks by selecting and obtaining necessary equipment, identifying and managing hazards and risks, and erecting barriers and warning signs to ensure safe work practices. The unit also covers conducting equipment pre-start checks, start-up, park and shutdown procedures, and operating and driving equipment in a safe and efficient manner including modifying operating techniques to meet changing work conditions. The unit requires loading, moving and unloading waste using approved methods according to waste types and operational capacity of equipment. It also requires carrying out basic housekeeping and equipment maintenance procedures including routine service checks. The unit requires the ability to maintain communication with site personnel before and during equipment operation.The unit supports those who work under limited supervision in a waste management team.Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements may apply to this unit of competency in some States where a licence is required to operate various plant, vehicles or equipment used to transport, shift, load, unload, lift, compact or otherwise process waste. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements. | ||
Duration and Setting | X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting. The following must be present and available to learners during assessment activities: equipment: loadshifting equipment and attachments, as specified by organisational requirements personal protective equipment (PPE), as specified by organisational requirements relationships with team members and supervisor: working under limited supervision. Timeframe: as specified by organisational requirements. Assessor requirements As a minimum, assessors must satisfy the assessor requirements in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) current at the time of assessment. |
