Learning Outcomes and Application This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to carry out routine maintenance and minor repairs on a water supply and disposal system or structure and its various components. It includes safely shutting down and restarting water supply and disposal system equipment and infrastructure, and replacing or repairing worn or damaged parts, with minimal stress or damage to stock.The unit applies to individuals who carry out maintenance work in an aquaculture facility under the direction and guidance of a supervisor.All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures, according to state/territory health and safety, biosecurity and environmental regulations, legislation and standards that apply to the workplace.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Element: Prepare for work
  • Confirm maintenance schedule or instructions with supervisor
  • Collect and check required tools and equipment, including personal protective equipment, for serviceability
  • Review and prioritise tasks at the work site against instructions
       
Element: Undertake maintenance and repairs
  • Shut down or control water supply, disposal system or structure as instructed, and enable an alternative supply or disposal system before beginning maintenance and repairs
  • Service equipment using safe work practices
  • Replace or repair worn or damaged parts as instructed by supervisor
       
Element: Follow up maintenance and repair activities
  • Return water supply, disposal system or structure to working order
  • Measure and record flow rates according to workplace procedures
  • Visually inspect water supply and disposal system or structure for non-standard operation, and report observations
       
Element: Finalise and review maintenance and repair activities
  • Clean work area and dispose of waste materials safely according to workplace procedures
  • Check and store tools and equipment, reporting any identified repair requirements to supervisor
  • Record relevant data and observations and report any abnormal records to supervisor

Assessment Tasks
