Learning Outcomes and Application The unit covers establishing, maintaining and managing systematic approaches to managing work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS)in the electricity supply industry. It requires application in a management context in terms of responsibility to ensure that the workplace is, as far as practicable, safe and without risk to employees, clients and other present visitors.The application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit may require a licence/registration to practice in the workplace subject to regulations for undertaking of electrical work. Other conditions may apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licencing requirements which must be confirmed prior to commencing this unit.

Element: Plan to manage an ESI WHS/OHS management system
  • Purpose of the WHS/OHS management system is established after data is analysed and expected outcomes of the work are confirmed with appropriate personnel
       
Element: Legislative requirements and established procedures on policies and specifications for the WHS/OHS management system are obtained or established with appropriate personnel
       
Element: Procedures and processes for identifying hazards, assessing and controlling risks, as well as dealing with hazardous events are established
       
Element: Work roles and tasks are allocated according to requirements and individuals' competencies
       
Element: Work is prioritised and sequenced for the most efficient outcome, completed within an acceptable timeframe to a quality standard and in accordance with established procedures
       
Element: Appropriate participative processes with employees and their representatives are established and maintained in accordance with relevant industry standards consistent with enterprise procedures
       
Element: Issues raised through participation and consultation are dealt with and resolved promptly and effectively in accordance with procedures for issues resolution
