Learning Outcomes and Application This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to control vegetation whilst performing linework in the electricity supply industry (ESI).It includes controlling vegetation, including tree trimming, working near live low voltage (LV) conductors as specified in the relevant legislation, completing inspection reports and updating records in accordance with workplace requirements.This unit applies to transmission, distribution, rail traction, telecommunications and vegetation management control industry sectors.The application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit may require a licence to practice in the workplace.Other conditions may apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licencing requirements which must be confirmed prior to commencing this unit.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Element: Control vegetation
  • WHS/OHS, sustainable energy and environmental principles and practices are monitored and followed to reduce incidents in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Requirements for lifting and/or climbing and/or working at heights and the use of power tools/equipment are followed in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Vegetation near live LV conductors is monitored to ensure completion in agreed timeframes, to quality standards and with minimum waste in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Vegetation control is performed in accordance with work schedule, job requirements and workplace procedures
  • Unplanned events in vegetation control are responded to in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Quality checks of work are undertaken in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Prepare to control vegetation
  • Work schedules, construction plans, drawings, workplace procedures and material lists are received and confirmed
       
Element: Job requirements and workplace procedures are identified and communicated with relevant personnel
       
Element: Work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS), environmental and workplace procedures for the control of vegetation near live LV conductors are obtained and confirmed for the purposes of the work to be performed
       
Element: Work is prioritised and sequenced for completion within acceptable timeframes following consultation with relevant personnel and in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Hazards are identified, WHS/OHS risks assessed and control measures identified in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Relevant work permits are confirmed and signed in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Plant, equipment, tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) required for work are identified, obtained and confirmed in working order

Element: Tools, equipment and surplus resources and materials are, where appropriate, cleaned, checked and returned to storage in accordance with workplace procedures

Assessment Tasks
