This unit describes the performance outcomes required to monitor and maintain automotive tools, equipment and machinery.

It involves monitoring the tools, equipment and machinery during operation, performing minor maintenance, and applying preventative maintenance procedures.

It applies to those in an automotive and related component manufacturing environment and involves the application of skills and knowledge at a production worker level.

1. Monitor operation

1.1 Identify and monitor processes relevant to the task according to manufacturer specifications, workplace instructions and procedures

1.2 Monitor operation of tools, equipment and machinery to ensure they are performing according to job requirements and operator instructions

2. Perform minor maintenance

2.1 Perform minor maintenance on tools, equipment and machinery according to manufacturer specifications, workplace procedures and WHS requirements

2.2 Identify maintenance requirements outside the range of operator expertise or responsibility and report to appropriate personnel, in accordance with workplace procedures

3. Apply preventative maintenance

3.1 Check tools, equipment and machinery used in the manufacturing process according to workplace and manufacturer preventative maintenance procedures

3.2 Report identified requirements of tools, equipment and machinery to appropriate personnel according to workplace procedures

4. Complete monitoring and maintenance procedures

4.1 Maintain and clean equipment, tools, machinery and work areas according to workplace procedures

4.2 Identify, tag and report faulty or damaged tools, equipment and machinery according to workplace procedures

4.3 Complete workplace documentation and equipment maintenance reports according to workplace procedures
