This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to plan, organise and implement the recording of music demos in audio or video formats.
It applies to individuals who work as musicians or band members, and wish to promote their work to the public, music agents, record companies and media outlets.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. 2. To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:
outline factors to be considered in planning a music demo
describe recording protocols, conventions and procedures
describe elements of musical arrangement and organisation in relation to content of the demo recording
describe characteristics and potential of different file formats for editing, production and distribution of the music demo
outline issues and challenges that arise when making a music demo and how they may be overcome
describe work health and safety procedures as they relate to recording plans and sessions.
Assessment Conditions
Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to:
instruments and equipment
appropriate studios and rehearsal facilities.
Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
