Application
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required by performers such as actors, singers, dancers, circus performers and comedians to prepare their own hair, make-up and costume for performances. These could be in commercial, competition or community settings.
Work at this level requires a range of well-developed skills where some discretion and judgment are required and individuals are expected to take responsibility for their own outputs.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. 2. 3. Evidence of Performance
Evidence of the ability to:
apply hair, make-up and costuming for at least two performances
recreate hair and make-up designs on consecutive occasions
meet production requirements promptly
select, apply and remove hair and make-up products correctly
follow work health and safety (WHS) procedures and policies.
Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided for each of the above points at least once.

To complete the unit requirements the individual must:
demonstrate knowledge of:
WHS requirements in relation to preparing personal appearance for performances
effect cleaning agents have on a range of fabrics or materials, particularly those that are fragile and easily damaged
effect lighting has on the appearance of hair colour, skin tone and make-up
demonstrate well-developed knowledge of:
roles and responsibilities of production personnel
effect on the skin of ingredients in commonly used make-up and hair products
techniques for determining and modifying own physical appearance to produce visual representation of the character being portrayed
basic repair and maintenance techniques for different types of fabrics and costumes.
Assessment Conditions
Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to:
an environment in which different styles and designs for hair, make-up and costumes can be applied, modified, repaired and maintained within realistic timeframes
relevant products and equipment.
Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
