Application
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to help choose a location or site for an artwork, and participate in planning for its installation. The planning involves research, consultation and review as part of the process.
It applies to individuals who work in all areas of artistic practice. Typically this work would apply to sites for artwork or installations in public spaces.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

source information about location, characteristics and dimensions of potential sites for artwork or installation within required timeframe
identify site characteristics that may affect planning work and determine their impact
contribute to the planning process, selecting work options that are responsive to the characteristics of nominated site and creative work to be installed
discuss and communicate ideas with others during planning process, using oral, visual and written means to convey intent
document work processes using varied formats and according to required procedures.

Evidence of Knowledge
To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:
outline information needed about proposed sites when planning work and identify potential sources of this information
describe key factors to consider when selecting artwork suitable for public spaces:
describe procedures to be followed when sourcing site information from people external to the organisation.
Assessment Conditions
Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to:
a site where work is being planned.
Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
