Operate the irrigation system


Application

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to operate the irrigation system and implement the irrigation system maintenance schedule according to instructions.

The unit applies to individuals who work under general supervision to use irrigation systems.

All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures, according to state/territory health and safety, and food safety regulations, legislation and standards that apply to the workplace.

No occupational licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Prepare the irrigation system for operation

1.1 Confirm work instructions

1.2 Confirm environmental guidelines and identify potential health and safety hazards and controls

1.3 Select and fit personal protective equipment relevant to the job requirements

1.4 Check equipment is ready for use according to workplace procedures

2. Operate the irrigation system

2.1 Start the irrigation system according to workplace procedures

2.2 Set irrigation requirements according to instructions

2.3 Monitor the control points to confirm that performance is maintained within specification

2.4 Rectify out-of-specification system performance and report details

3. Complete operation of the irrigation system

3.1 Shut down the irrigation system according to workplace procedures

3.2 Implement cleaning and maintenance activities, in line with schedule

3.3 Out of specification performance is identified, rectified and reported to supervisor in accordance with responsibilities of own role

3.4 Collect, treat and sustainably dispose of waste generated by both the process and cleaning procedures, according to workplace procedures

3.5 Record workplace information according to workplace procedures
