Perform advanced welding using oxy acetylene welding process


Application

This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to perform advanced oxy acetylene welding using a range of materials for general fabrication.

Welding quality would meet AS 1554 Special Purpose or equivalent.

Where advanced manual thermal cutting, gouging and shaping is required unit MEM05008 Perform advanced manual thermal cutting, gouging and shaping should also be selected.

Determine job requirements

Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)

Weld joints to Australian Standard 1554 SP or equivalent

Weld materials to AS 1554 Structural Purpose or equivalent in all positions

Interpret instructions, symbols and specifications, including bead size, bead placement and reinforcement in accordance with weld procedure sheet, if available, and SOPs

Ensure weld conformance

Inspect weld joints visually for conformance to specifications

Remove defects with minimum loss of sound metal using correct and appropriate techniques and tools

Complete weld records, where required
