Use personal camouflage and concealment in a threat environment

This unit covers the competency required to reduce one's personal signature in a threat environment.This competency includes camouflaging oneself (and own personal equipment), concealing movement and minimising sign.This competency is underpinned by selecting the type of camouflage required for a particular situation, and detection capabilities of the threat.

Application

The application of this unit in the workplace - the environments, complexities and situations involved - will be written during Phase II of the Review of the PUA00 Public Safety Training Package.

This text will be useful for the purposes of job descriptions, recruitment advice or job analysis; where possible, it will not be too job specific to allow other industries to import it into other Training Packages, where feasible.

Minimise personal signature	2.1 Personal equipment is prepared and packed appropriately 2.2 Improvised techniques are used appropriately 2.3 Techniques for the use or reduction of shadow are applied 2.4 Odours are minimised to prevent human detection, and to minimise scent-trail for tracker-animals 2.5 Electronic signature is minimised or avoided to prevent disclosure of position 2.6 Rations are prepared and consumed using techniques to avoid detection 2.7 Communication is achieved through non-verbal signals 2.8 Waste is carried with the person and/or disposed of appropriately
3. Minimise personal signature when on the move	3.1 Appropriate routes are selected 3.2 Type of movement selected is appropriate to the environment and tactical situation 3.3 Silhouetting against uniform backdrops such as the sky is avoided 3.4 Environment is continually assessed to identify the threat or their sign 3.5 Spoor displacement is minimised 3.6 Reaction to unexpected incidents minimises chances of detection 3.7 Rest-areas are selected that provide optimum concealment to facilitate rest and upon leaving, are refurbished to remove evidence of stay

Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit	Assessment must confirm the ability to send and receive simple non-verbal signals; and to carry out appropriate health and safety techniques. Consistency in performance Competency should be demonstrated over a time frame that allows for the consistent demonstration of competency.
Context of and specific resources for assessment	Context of assessment Competency must be assessed using simulated tactical situations. When practicable, assessment should relate to the individual's vocational focus. Specific resources for assessment Access to a suitable training area, simulated threat and friendly forces.
Guidance information for assessment	Information that will assist or guide assessment will be written during Phase II of the Review of the PUA00 Public Safety Training Package.
