Manage outsourced supply chain operations


Application

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to manage outsourced supply chain operations. It includes planning and confirming contracted services, determining the capacity of contracted services, managing contracted services and reporting on contracted services.

Outsourced supply chain operations, Third/Fourth Party Logistics (3PL/4PL) contracted services, typically use a variety of resources, capabilities and technology to manage parts or complete supply chain operations. Contracted services can include transportation, warehousing, inventory management, container receipt and de-stuffing, order management and processing, cross docking, sourcing, procure to pay, customs brokerage and freight forwarding.

The unit is applicable to those with team leadership responsibilities within a supply chain.

Manage contracted services

Performance of contracted services are monitored, using an approved management system, to ensure KPIs are being met

Integrity of operations and practices of contracted services are monitored and non-compliances are actioned, in accordance with supply chain procedures

Dispute resolution and termination processes for contracted services are managed, in accordance with contractual obligations and supply chain procedures

Review and report on contracted services

4.1

Performance of outsourced supply chain operations and compliance of contracted services is reviewed, in accordance with supply chain procedures

4.2

Report on outsourced supply chain operations and contracted services is prepared and distributed to approved stakeholders

Continuous improvement actions, including recommendations on potential contracted services, are documented

Evidence of Performance

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and includes

Assessment Conditions

Assessors must hold credentials specified within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must satisfy the Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence and all regulatory requirements included within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must occur in workplace operational situations where it is appropriate to do so. Where this is not appropriate, assessment must occur in simulated workplace operational situations that replicate workplace conditions.

Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.

Resources for assessment must include access to a range of

exercises, case studies or other simulations

materials and tools including digital supply chain equipment used in industry

documentation including organisational policies and procedures, industry standards, regulations, codes of practice, operational manuals and equipment specifications.


Foundation Skills

Foundation skills essential to performance are explicit in the performance criteria of this unit of competency.
