Perform civil drafting


Application

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to perform civil drafting and to use drawing equipment for the production of sectional, schematic and plan drawings.

Drafting is the creation of a technical drawing, schematic or plan of a mechanical device or structure for the purpose of determining how they have been created or works.Drafting can be completed by hand or with specially designed computer programs.

Competency in this unit requires the ability to prepare for drafting,perform civil draftingand complete work tasks. Individuals will, in general, work as a maintenance operative in a power generation facility.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Note: Workplace practice

The application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit of competency may require a licence or training permit to practice in the workplace, where work is carried out on gas and electrical installations. Additional and/or other conditions may apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements.

Prepare for drafting

1.1

Requirements including scope of work are identified and confirmed with appropriate personnel or by site inspection, in accordance with workplace procedures

1.2

Work, Health and Safety (WHS)/Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations, legislative requirements, industry standards, codes of practice, manufacturers’ specifications, environmental obligations and workplace procedures are reviewed in preparation for work

Relevant plans, drawings and manuals are selected and used, in accordance with workplace procedures

Performdrafting

2.1

Civil structures and their assembly are drawn using sectional representations, in accordance with specification requirements

2.2

Civil structures are drawn to highlight critical features, in accordance workplace procedures and manufacturers' specifications

2.3

Progressive tolerance calculations are performed, in accordance with workplace procedures, to ensure functional operation of civil structures

2.4

Dimensions are selected to ensure fit of civil components, in accordance with specification requirements

2.5

Civil components are selected from manufacturers' catalogue, in accordance with workplace procedures, to meet specified functions

2.6

Pictorial drawings such as isometrics are produced, as requested, in accordance with workplace procedures and industry standards

Complete work

3.1

Drawings are checked to ensure that civil structure assembly is possible, in accordance with specification requirements

3.2

Drawings are produced, registered and recorded, in accordance with workplace documentation procedures

3.3

Relevant personnel are notified, and existing drawings and specification sheets are updated, as required
