Write programs for control systems


Application

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to undertake the writing of programs from flow charts for electronic control systems.

A flowchart shows the order in which a series of events and/or processes are carried out, they are used as the basis for writing programs for electronic control systems which direct and regulate other devices and systems.

Competency in this unit requires the ability to plan and prepare for work, write and load programs,test operating parameters and complete all work tasks. Individuals will, in general, work as a maintenance operative, in a power generation facility.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Note: Workplace practice

The application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit of competency may require a licence or training permit to practice in the workplace, where work is carried out on gas and electrical installations. Additional and/or other conditions may apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements.

Plan and prepare for work

Requirements including scope of work and assigned roles are identified and confirmed with appropriate personnel or by site inspection, in accordance with workplace procedures

Testing and measurement instruments to review operating parameters are selected and used, in accordance with workplace procedures

Sequence and variables are tested, in accordance with workplace procedures, to confirm operating parameters of control system is being met

Complete work

Documentation of programming is presented to appropriate personnel, in accordance with the workplace procedures
