Application

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to manage the development, implementation and review of the permit to work system in a power generation facility.

Permits to workare a formal system used to control high risk activities in power generation facilities, they specify the control measures to be used. They ensure that all hazards and precautions have been considered beforeany hazardous workbegins.

Competency in this unit requires the ability to plan for implementation of permit to work procedures,develop permit to work system and procedures, manage permit to work systemand audit permit to work procedures. Individuals will, in general, work as an operator with responsibility for managing the permit to work system in a power generation facility.

Power generation plant operators are typically trained and authorised to isolate, prepare plant and issue permits to work.
