Operate asset inspection machinery and equipment near live electrical apparatus


Application

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to operate asset inspection machinery and equipment near live electrical apparatus in the electricity supply industry (ESI).

It includes inspecting and maintaining machinery and equipment, identifying hazards, assessing risks and implementing risk control measures. It also includes complying with relevant regulatory agencies/bodies, legislation, industry guidelines, codes of practice for safe use of machinery and equipment operating near live electrical and mechanical apparatus.

This unit would be applied by asset inspectors engaged in regular and methodical inspection and treatment of poles and inspection of electrical apparatus in the transmission and distribution industry sector.

The application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit may require a license to operate specific pieces of equipment such as elevated work platforms.
