Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

There must be evidence that the candidate has, on at least three different occasions:

undertaken a detailed health assessment of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients, including adults and children

reviewed all relevant information for clients, including past treatment plans, to support the health assessment

carried out, and interpreted the outcomes of, relevant tests and examinations to identify and clarify specific health issues

developed care plans for clients, including treatment, in consultation with relevant health care team and health care professionals

communicated all aspects of the health care plan to clients and/or family in a culturally appropriate and safe manner, encouraging understanding and questions

implemented the health care plan by:

initiating treatment, including administering specific treatment procedures

referring clients to appropriate health services

using medical equipment necessary to determined treatment actions

monitoring the client’s progress and adjusting treatment as required to support health

supporting the client to engage in their health care plan by providing information to the client about their specific health issues

using client appointments to review the progress of the client under the treatment plan
