Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

ICTTEN508 - Locate, diagnose and rectify complex faults

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Prepare to locate and rectify complex faults

  1. Prepare for given work according to relevant legislation, codes, regulations and standards
  2. Notify client to arrange site access
  3. Obtain and interpret results of any action taken by first fault repairer
  4. Obtain fault history to establish any fault patterns
  5. Obtain all available data on system equipment to assist with fault diagnosis
  6. Develop strategies for identification and repair in discussion with other engineering and technical personnel
  7. Obtain tools and test equipment relevant to the identified system type and fault
  8. Set up equipment according to manufacturer’s specifications and safe work practices and reconfigure as required
