Fit medical grade footwear and orthoses that are not complex


Application

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to fit, trial and review medical grade footwear and orthoses for foot conditions that are up to medium complexity and risk, including where:

corrections to the foot structure are required

client is suffering foot-related pain or discomfort

ulceration is not present

there is only a single risk factor, which may include age, systemic problems such as diabetes (insulin dependent), haemophilia, peripheral vascular disease, neuropathy, ulcers, missing toes and lower limb amputations.

Work is generally conducted in a small business situation. The unit may apply to a sole practitioner, or someone working directly with medical grade footwear practitioners.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
