Carry out operational checks on in-service electrical plant


Application

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to conduct operational checks on in-service electrical plant.

Operational maintenance checks need to be undertaken regularly to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of all in-service electrical plant in the power generation facility.

Competency in this unit requires the ability to plan, carry out in-service electrical checks on electrical plant and completion of work. Individuals will, in general, work under supervision, in a power generation facility as an operator.

Power generation plant operators are typically trained and authorised to isolate, prepare plant and issue permits to work.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Note: Workplace practice

The application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit may require a licence or training permit to practice in the workplace where work is carried out on gas and electrical installations. Additional conditions may apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements.

Safety issues are identified, in accordance with Work, Health and Safety (WHS)/Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislative requirements, industry standards and workplace procedures

Work, electrical plant and resource requirements are identified from relevant work orders and documentation, in accordance with workplace procedures

Electrical plant status and work requirements are confirmed with appropriate personnel or by site inspection, in accordance with workplace procedures

Equipment is checked for correct calibration and operation in accordance with workplace procedures

Correct size, type and quantity of materials and components are obtained and inspected for compliance with job specification, in accordance with workplace procedures

Carry out in-service electrical checks

Electrical plant integrity and personnel safety are maintained, in accordance with workplace procedures, and through consultation with appropriate personnel and technical and operational documentation

Electrical plant control measures are returned to required operational status on completion of checks, in accordance with workplace procedures

Appropriate personnel are notified of completion of work, in accordance with workplace procedures

Electrical plant problems or abnormalities are reported in accordance with workplace procedures

Operational check results are documented, in accordance with workplace procedures
