Manage Work, Health and Safety policy and procedures


Application

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to manage the identification of hazards and the assessment and control of risks associated with generating plant and equipment.

Work,Health and Safety(WHS)/OccupationalHealth and Safety(OHS) is concerned with protecting the wellbeing of all workplace stakeholders from exposure to hazards and risks resulting fromactivities in power generation facilities. It involves the assessment and mitigation of risks that can cause short and long term harm.

Competency in this unit requires the ability to identify hazards, analyse and manage WHS/OHS risks, implement and manage procedures for identifying risks, recommend controls for hazards, identify and manage licensing and certification issues and review and evaluate risk control measures. Individuals will, in general, work as operators with responsibility for WHS/OHS, in a power generation facility.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Note: Workplace practice

The application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit may require a licence or training permit to practice in the workplace where work is carried out on gas and electrical installations. Additional conditions may apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements.

Identify hazards

Recognised sources of information, data and advice on power generating plant and equipment hazards are accessed, in accordance with workplace procedures and Work, Health and Safety (WHS)/Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations

Recommend controls for hazards

4.1

Maintenance procedures are documented and communicated to all personnel to ensure generating plant and equipment are safe, in accordance with workplace procedures

Modifications to generating plant or equipment are recorded in return to service documentation.

Identify and manage licensing and certification issues

5.1

WHS/OHS legislative requirements for plant registration, operator licensing or authorisation are identified and communicated to key stakeholders
